I was so overwhelmed and overjoyed when I saw someone do my very first tutorial for me. Her name is Beenabop and the link is posted below. This look took her so many hours to do, and surprisingly, most of the intricate work is drawn with liquid eyeliner. The process took so long, the shoot required THREE separate videos to complete!

My first Product Testing endeavour was such fun and a great success for all. Why everyone? Because I had enthusiastic people agreeing to have fun with mystery makeup jars simply labeled A, B & C with their ingredients, and all learned what was great about the products and what worked best for their skin type. All that was required was that you paid for your shipping cost ($2.50 US) and a short poll as to what jar you loved the best: A, B or C.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Are you willing to try three colors of mineral makeup?
In this exercise, I will be sending out three colors for you to try. Just look up. There they are. There are only 4 ingredients total, and are all-natural, pure minerals from the earth. Below are their names and a brief description of their use:

Iron Oxides are minerals that are used to create color.

Kaolin clay is great for dry sensitive skin because it is very soothing, offers great coverage, and is able to absorb oil from the skin. It absorbs 1 1/2 times its weight in oil!

Mica is transparent and allows for smooth makeup application.

Zinc Oxide is a skin healer, and water-resistant. It offers great SPF protection from the sun's harmful UVA/UVB rays. It is very soothing to the skin and helps heal acne.

NOTE: Not all of these ingredients are going to be used for all of the formulas. Some of the colors will have more or less of a certain ingredient, if any at all. Read your labels to determine which ingredients were used in each jar.

Each Jar will be labeled A, B or C.

This makeup is specifically formulated for ultra-sensitive skin. You will not have any burning, itching skin or runny, watering eyes.

I found an awesome jewelry designer who has a real eye for lampwork beads. Her name is Susan, and she is the creative genius at Cserpent.etsy.com.

Susan is a software engineer which allows her to be creative in a different way - writing code and fixing coding problems. Jewelry design is totally different, and gives her an additional creative outlet.

Custom jewelry design is very satisfying for Susan as she loves being able to create something that is just what the customer wanted, even though they didn't exactly know what they were truly looking for to begin with. William Dohman - World-Class Architect And Photographer

William Dohman, architect and worldwide traveler, makes his creations from photos taken from India, Japan, Holland, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Greece and Spain. He fell in love with photography while traveling around the world, studying architecture.

India, Japan, and the Netherlands were so unlike his West St. Paul roots which compelled him to document everything he saw, from kite strings to street life, broken playgrounds to the Taj Mahal. India was the first time he used a manual camera, and he was hooked—through trips to the Netherlands (where he studied at TU Delft) and surrounding countries, as well as a post-grad study of Japanese architecture.

His obsessive snapping prompted his fellow travelers to remark that they didn't really know what he looked like, given his face was constantly behind the camera. Making Lipstick 101

For those of you just beginning to make lipstick, buy the melt and pour lipstick base to start. You can add your minerals or use liquid lip pigment. Buy a lipstick mold and tubes.

1) Take 3 ounces of lipstick base and melt it for 1 - 1 1/2 minutes in a pyrex measuring cup. Check on it after one minute, because you do not want it boiling.

2) Remove from the microwave and add 2 - 3 tablespoons of mineral makeup or 1 drop of liquid lip colorant for every 7 grams of lipstick base (see below).

1 ounce = 28.25 grams, so you will add 4 drops per ounce = total of 12 drops.

3) Stir the mixture with a disposable plastic spoon. You will want to stir longer if you use minerals instead of the lip liquid because the minerals take time to be evenly dispersed throughout the mixture.

4) Pour the mixture into your lipstick molds and place it on a level surface-preferably in the refrigerator. Let it sit for at least one hour. The colder it is, the easier it will be to release the lipstick bullet from the mold. 5) Slowly remove the top of the mold exposing your lipstick bullets.

6) Take an empty lipstick tube (NOT a chapstick tube), make sure you have the barrel twisted all the way UP, and press it completely down until the lipstick barrel is flush with the mold. Lift and remove your new lipstick. Cover with cap.

Makes 12 lipsticks.

NOTE: You can use 1/2 the ingredients and make six of one color, then repeat the above steps and fill the remaining barrels with a new color.

Try earth tones, or being daring and go for bold! You don't have to be a teenager to enjoy mineral makeup. It is great for mature women as well. It helps hide fine lines and wrinkles, too!

Mineral Magic is Titanium FREE. Titanium Dioxide is a safe mineral used as pigment and sun protection from harmful Ultra Violet rays, but some people shy away. I don't know why, really. There is Titanium dioxide in toothpaste, soap, even on pumpkin seeds!

A Very Basic Mineral Makeup Recipe

If you would like to have a fun project for birthday parties or to just save money, here is a recipe to create your own mineral makeup.

This recipe will make enough makeup to fill a 30 gram jar at least three to four times over, depending on how bad you screw up! LOL!

What you will need:

3 Tablespoons of Titanium Dioxide

2 1/2 Teaspoons of Zinc Oxide

2 1/2 Teaspoons of Iron oxide pigment color of your choice(Start with small amounts and build to achieve the desired shade)

2 1/2 Teaspoons of Mica (choose either shimmer or plain) (Choose the pearl mica if you want a shimmer to your shadow, or the matte mica if you want a low luster)

A blender or mortar and pestle (A coffee grinder can also be used, but please reserve it just for cosmetics)

4 - 5 makeup sifter jars - 30 gram size

Mix the titanium and zinc oxide together in a large bowl or mortar. Slowly add the iron oxide pigments until you have the desired color you are looking for.

An example would be to mix red oxide and yellow oxide to get anywhere from a peach to a bright orange color, depending on how much pigment you add to your mixture. If you go too dark with your color and wish to lighten it, add more titanium dioxide.

*The key is to completely blend your pigments together.

Transfer your finished product into your sifter jars. Apply with a makeup brush.

All colors can be used for eyeliner, blush, nail polish and lip color as well, with blue and green being the only exception. Regulations prohibit the use of blue and green on your lip area.

If I use Titanium Dioxide On My Skin, Will I get Cancer?

NO.

Titanium is found in soap, toothpaste- many places. Even on pumpkin seeds!! (See very the last link from artgirlx, below! ) It is generally used as a pigment and to help block sunrays.

A recent Canadian study showed respiratory lung cancer in a rat study. Google it for yourself. None of us sit in a chamber with the only air to breathe is exclusively Titanium.

Beach weather: Sunblock versus Sunscreen.

They are two 2 different things. Sunblock contains titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide and have a lower SPF around 30, in it so you have to reapply.

Both titanium and zinc are physical barriers, meaning they will stay on the surface of your skin reflecting sunlight and other environmental dangers like free radicals (cancer causes and aging).

Titanium and Zinc are both white in color and can be used on anybody without complications or sensitivities due to the fact it does not penetrate your skin.

What I think many people are concerned about are the chemical sunscreens that are the oil free higher spf's that neutralize the UV rays once they enter your epidermis (skin). Those can cause cancer because they do not block free radicals. They also work by setting off a chemical reaction inside your skin.

If you find a product with titanium dioxide it is safe!!! It will prevent cancer rays if used and reapplied correctly. It will also protect against other environmental factors. Trust me its good ...and safe to use on your skin.

"Radical" and "free radical" are frequently used interchangeably, however a radical may be trapped within a solvent cage or be otherwise bound.

Simply put, titanium stays on top of your skin rather than penetrate it.

What Foundation Should I Use? How Do I Find My Foundation Color?

Here is A general guideline for your foundation color:

Blythe- Lighter than Ivory. If you are really as white as a ghost; porcelain white, then this is for you.

Ivory - All-white skinned always burns (e.g RED HEADS)

Fair - This color is for women with very fair skin who tend to burn very easily and usually will not tan. Light- This color is for women with average light skin who tend to burn more than tan.

Medium - This color is for women with a medium skin tone who tend to tan easily and seldom burn. 80 percent of women will choose medium as their color.

Tan - This color is for women who never usually burn or are simply tan year round: Latinas, Pacific Islanders, Asian.

Deep/Dark - This color is for light African American women.

Sista-Girl - This is for the very deepest African American skin tones. Period.

Bisque = Concealer - This is a different name for the exact same color. A multi-purpose mineral makeup that covers all flaws. Can be used to highlight dark skin, to cover acne, scarring, beauty marks, uneven skin tones from pregnancy.

The only thing Eva finds challenging is staying within a budget and finding the materials to create. Everything from that point on, is easy for her.

Her bead 'addiction' is artisan Lampwork beads in particular, and it's not easy because there are so many wonderful, talented glass artists out there.

She always gets excited when she sees beautiful beads and *wants* to buy them. The expense of it all, is cost prohibitive at times. S ome of these beads can go for hundreds, even thousands of dollars. She has seen some truly amazing, jaw-dropping, record setting auctions on eBay. These beads are handcrafted and unique - some, exclusively one-of-a-kind. So when someone else snaps 'em up - they're gone.

The most challenging part of an artist trying to do business is the promotion and marketing.
Being as shy as she is doesn't help! That comes from many years of hearing "Children should be seen and not heard." As a result, she is very humble, meek ans quiet so this is a big challenge for her.

As for her creativity she says: "I use a lot of artisan made Lampwork beads in my pieces. They are exquisite little works of Art that make me really happy inside, so I try to incorporate them in my work as much as possible. I also use a lot of sterling silver, fine silver and lately have been experimenting with Argentium silver. "

What she loves most about being an artist: The process of creating a vision, a thought, a concept, and touching others with the end result. When one of my pieces brings someone else joy and lifts their spirit or makes them feel special - that to me is the best feeling in the world."

Her advice to other artists is to never lose focus or passion for your craft. When this happens to her she tries to refocus by reading favorite inspirational quotes - Martha Graham's words to Agnes de Mille, portions of Max Ehrmann's Desiderata, Ralph Waldo Emerson's writings about Success.

"I try to remember artists like Van Gogh - a great artist that only sold one painting in his lifetime. I'm certainly not comparing myself to Van Gogh's greatness as an artist. What I'm saying is he was compelled to do what he did regardless of the fact that only one of his paintings sold. His story gives me the courage to keep doing what I'm doing."

Her favorite charity is "Paws For A Cause".She has been making jewelry for 3 years after being inspired by the artisan at Ebay.

She shares: "I stumbled upon all these incredibly whimsical handcrafted Lampwork bracelets, which led me to discover the delightful, mesmerizing, highly addictive, mad mad world of artisan made Lampwork beads. About Tiffany in her own words:

The thrill of photography captured me at the age of seven when I was given a 110 camera to document a family trip. In high school, I studied art and dance but never enrolled in a photography class. Instead, a kind science teacher taught me how to process and print film in the school darkroom, so I could indulge my creativity whenever I wished, independent of a supervised class.

In 1991, at the age of 18, I left Minneapolis, Minnesota, for Tempe, Arizona, where I lived for one and a half years before continuing my travels with temporary homes on Jupiter Island, Florida and Fisher's Island, New York. In 1994, I settled down in the western mountains of Carrabassett Valley, Maine. Photography was used to record the details of my life, yet remained nothing more than a hobby.

In 1995, I moved one town south, to Kingfield, population 1,100. In 1997, at the age of 23, I decided to return to school. I enrolled in general courses at the University of Maine in Farmington, 30 minutes away, with the intension of transferring to a nursing school. My ultimate goal was to be a pediatric surgical nurse, yet my yearning to be a photographer kept me questioning my true calling. I was torn between a career in the medical field or in the arts. Long story short, after a series of unexpected detours and discoveries, I decided to jump into photography with both feet. I never looked back and before I was done, I earned two degrees from the University of Maine at Augusta, a two and a half hour round trip commute that I made up to 3 times a week. The first was an Associate of Arts in Photography (Magna cum Laude) in December of 2000, and then a Bachelor of Arts Joint BA in Art and Photography (Magna cum Laude) in May of 2002.

I have been making my living as a photographer since 1998, when I started my career at the same time I started to study photography at University. I am thankful to be able make a living doing what I love.

To indulge my spirit of wanderlust and to fuel my creative inspiration, I travel to the chosen environments of my portrait clients, whether they live down the street or halfway around the globe. Inevitably, serving my clients and exploring these new places contributes valuably to the fine art photography that I create as an artist. I have intentional chosen to balance working in both the commercial and art realms. I find that together they blend into a unique harmony that appeals not only to a bliss filled expectant mother, but also to the artist who is looking for an innovative way to market their services, and again to the art enthusiast seeking an image that moves them to want to have it grace their wall. How To Apply Mineral Makeup

Where do I start?

Take your time when working with minerals. It takes a little time to find an application method that works great for you.

Dry Method #1

1. With lid on, softly tap or shake product upside down into lid.

2. Using your Kabuki/Powder brush, gently press the brush head into powder. (Tap off excess, or you will be wasting product and possibly end up with poor application.)

3. Start buffing powder onto your skin in a circular motion. Repeat this process until you have the coverage you like.

Wet Method #1

1. Lightly spritz face with purified water or mineral mist after you've tapped excess product from brush before you apply product to skin. Or spray some water or mist into an empty container and shake some of the mineral powders onto that. Mix thoroughly and apply with a brush or sponge.

2. If you find your product is drying out before you feel you are finished, then lightly spritz again.

Wet Method #2

1. Try mixing a few drops of your favorite moisturizer in with your powder. If you want a thin coverage like a liquid makeup use less powder. If you want a thick foundation like a pan makeup then add more powder to the moisturizer, the more powder you add the thicker the foundation. This method can be applied with a contour brush for great coverage.

MINERAL VEIL OR SETTING POWDER

Apply the mineral veil over your foundation for a finished look. Mineral veils are also used as correctors. Use the Yellow on red areas to correct the red or the Pink veil to add warmth to your complexion. Mineral veil is applied the same as the foundation only lighter.

MINERAL BLUSH

Use the blush SPARINGLY to contour the cheek. Barely dab the blush brush tip into the sifter jar and tap off the excess before applying.

MULTI-USE MINERALS (EYE SHADOW AND BLUSH)

Use any color from the Mineral Magic multi-purpose mineral collection for eye shadow, blush, liquid eyeliner, nail polish, lipstick or body shimmer. NOTE: The blues and greens are not to be used on the lips.

Eye Shadow:

Simply dip an eye shadow brush into the desired color and apply to your eyelids. Choose a lighter color as a highlighter to apply under the brow. Use a darker color in the crease as a shader. Apply dry for a lighter color and apply wet for a darker dramatic color.

Liquid Eyeliner:

Wet your Line It brush with water, dip into the desired color of mineral powder. Mix water and powder together on the back of your hand or in separate container until well blended. Apply close to lashes.

Nail Polish:

Use any nail polish. Dip your nail polish brush into the mineral powder of your choice. Apply to nails. For darker color, use more powder.

Lip Color:

Dip your lip brush into your favorite lip balm/stick/gloss and then into the mineral powder of your choice. Blend well and then apply to lips.

My name is Jamie Hinson. I've been making jewelry for over 10 years, and crocheting for over 25 years.

I'm inspired by beads themselves. I love that they are rich in history, and not just shiny little things. I advertise locally via craft shows, open houses, word of mouth, referrals, and online through various mediums. One of my favorite items is the "Chelsea" necklace from my website (wire crochet necklace).

It combines my two favorite hobbies, and is named after my daughter (14 months old). As you can see from my website, most of my items are "named" after women in my family. I guess my advice would be to just create what you like, because you never know what someone's going to be looking for.

Anna is a self-employed wife and mother of two teenage daughters.

She loves beading and finds that it is her therapy for stress!

She and her daughters first started beading over 10 years ago. Since then the beads have gotten smaller and the designs more intricate. Although her girls no longer bead, they enjoy wearing the pieces that she have created such as her original pieces she created to match their homecoming and/or prom dresses!

She is from Sydney, Australia, and has been creating jewelry since early 2004. It quickly became a passion for her which helped fill the time while caring for her mother who has MS.

Jewelry then lead her to the wonderful world of lampwork beads. Yet another way to play with colours. It's such a thrill to play with molten glass watching it flow and form beautiful objects, she says.

Meet Paricia, The SilverDragon

Well, I am a very talented person. I used to be shy about saying this, but as it is the truth, I am learning not to be shy about it. I was a professional ballerina when I was younger but all that starving to lose ever more weight made me ver ill and I finally had to stop dancing. That didn't stop me from continuing to be an artist, though, nor from persuing a dual degree in Math and Physics (and then a Master in Astrophysics) to assuage my innate curiosity.

As an artist I initially concentrated on two dimensional work - paintings, drawings, some photography - but I somehow found my way to delving into beadweaving. Textiles had and still have always been a fascination of mine. And when something fascinates me I want to get my hands into it.

Beadweaving is great because not only am I creating something that is three dimensional but can also be considered to be a textile (made of glass!) as well. But I will always love putting art on paper as well and am very proud of the illustrations I did for "Papa Cardinal Finds Breakfast" by Sandra Wellborn.

My favorite item is a piece that I sold a couple years ago called "Tao." it is a study of purples and violets and lavendars and AB crystal. I still have an image of it on my website despite the fact that the scan isn't as good as I'd like (and can now make). Its page is http://vener-art.com/Beads/necklace-crystal-tao.html.

I find inspiration everywhere, both internal and external. Sometimes it is the material itself that inspires me but inspiration can also come from a glint of color in the sky, an archeological image, a painting, a poem, even an equation. Sometimes just standing there minding my own business and snap! I am hit with an idea.I am still learning the ins and outs of the business aspect of being an artist who intends to make her living from her work.

I advertise first of all by handing out cards and bookmarks, (I print them at home more or less as needed), networking (I've started going to Women's Business Connection meetings), word of mouth, and by a pair of cooperative ads with other artists, (three ads in Ornament Magazine with several other Art Jewelry Collective Street Team members and a joint postcard issuance with other Etsy Beadweavers Street Team artists).

My advice is to find education where you can. For us as artists the creative aspect is much easier than the entrepenurial aspect. If you can afford help, get it. If you can't, work hard and pay attention. That's what I am doing but I know that if (better, when) I can afford it I will be getting a CPA to do my bookkeeping! Finally, write up a business plan and review it occasionally. I, myself, am a year late in doing that review!
